I'm one of those people who generally believes I am the one in control of my life and destiny. Are you?
One of the downsides of being this kind of person is that when you fail or struggle, it can be so easy to beat yourself up over it. "Why can't I get this right?" you ask yourself. Then you worry that you are weak, not competitive, or perhaps even lazy.
One of the things that I don't think about often enough is this idea of "an environment that supports success." Well, I do think about it for my clients, but I don't think about it for myself often enough. So let me ask you, Enlightened Leaders - do you put yourself in an environment that supports your success?
Most of you know I recently moved from the suburbs to the city, but what I haven't mentioned is the transformative effect it's had on some of my goals. Being in close proximity to my clients, to the grocery store, to my business associations - it has simply made everything easier. I am more productive, spending less time in the car, and I'm getting a ton of exercise without much effort. I feel like a well-oiled consulting machine - happy and nearly unstoppable.
Being this productive, being this active, it simply felt like more work when I lived further away from everything.
I am the same person, with the same goals and drive, but putting myself in a new environment has increased my health and effectiveness. I didn't change *me*, but I did change my context.
It's got me wondering about the big impact our environment has on us. Sometimes a change of scene makes a big change in our lives. Is your environment supporting you and your goals? Just something to think about, as you make your way through your week.
